Where Repetitive Work Ends
and purpose begins
The mission behind Agentic Business Transformation
The Era of Agentic Business Transformation
The world's smartest people, at some of the world's best companies, spend time doing the most mundane tasks. Brilliant engineers, designers, product managers spend 50-70% of their time on work that just keeps the lights on. Copying data between systems. Updating spreadsheets. Chasing approvals. Writing the same email for the hundredth time. Other talented and well-meaning people built impressive tools that were supposed to help. SaaS platforms. Workflow automation. Robotic process automation. Each wave promised liberation, but each wave also fell short. Tools can't think. They don't adapt to new information and rapidly changing real-world situations. They don't understand context. Tools do what we tell them to do, in exactly the way we tell them to do it. So smart people keep doing work that doesn't need them to be smart. But that is changing now.

The Next Industrial Revolution
In the 18th century, the Industrial Revolution changed everything with a net productivity increase of just 1%. One percent. It reshaped how people lived, where they worked, the entire geopolitical landscape, and created the wealth we're still building on today. We're now at the beginning of something bigger. Much bigger. Agentic AI—specifically, autonomous AI agents that can execute complex workflows end-to-end—will deliver productivity gains that dwarf what came before. We're already seeing it: AI agents resolving 80-90% of customer support tickets. Pharmacists making pre-authorization decisions in minutes, not hours. Teams of 50 doing work that used to require 500 people. By 2030, the economic impact will exceed anything the Industrial Revolution achieved. We're talking about $1-10 trillion in value creation. Companies will have billion-dollar valuations and fewer than 100 employees. Entire categories of repetitive work—gone. We believe this era of Agentic Business Transformation is a paradigm shift in how companies operate. There will be a new way to work.

Defining ABT
Agentic Business Transformation (ABT) is the architectural shift that happens as autonomous AI agents eliminate repetitive work, accelerate decision-making, and liberate human intelligence from mundane tasks. This is different from co-pilot AI, which assists human work. Different from RPA, which follows rigid scripts. Different from SaaS, which helps organize and execute, at best. AI agents reason. They plan. They take intelligent action. They own entire workflows and deliver outcomes, not just execute point tasks. They can work across systems, learn from feedback, and get better with every interaction—just like the best employees do. This entails a huge shift in how we've traditionally looked at work. That's why we need a new nomenclature and vocabulary for enterprises that are navigating this wave. Agentic Business Transformation (ABT) describes the architectural shift needed to integrate autonomous, multi-agent systems into the enterprise, so that AI Employees can own complex, cross-functional workflows, continuously learning from feedback and working with humans and other AI agents alike. This requires us to not only rethink how automation should be implemented, but also what work should look like.

The Modern Human-AI Workforce
When we look at the future of work, we see a world where: No one spends their morning copying data from one system to another. We see smart people focusing on strategy, creativity, and innovation—not administration. Teams of any size can compete with enterprises ten times their scale. Companies measure success not by how many people they employ, but by how much value those people create. Think about what this means for your team. For the person sitting three desks away who's spending half their day on tasks a machine can now do better. What if that time came back? What if instead of managing processes, they were building new ones? What if instead of chasing information, they were creating insight? What if instead of executing the plan, they were making plans? That's not a fantasy. We're seeing it happening across functions and businesses—in customer support, employee experience, compliance, revenue operations, finance, healthcare, insurance, and more. Employees in turn have more interesting work to do. They can grow into roles they never had time for before. Because when you take away repetition, what's left is humanity—judgment, creativity, connection.

Why This Needs a Name
Why not just call it "AI automation" or "intelligent agents"? Because language shapes reality, and naming the phenomenon gives us a shared vocabulary to start building knowledge together. When we name something, we start a conversation. We can create standards, negotiate best practices, cultivate shared understanding and opportunities to learn from each other. Without this, we can't inspire entire industries to move together. The Industrial Revolution wasn't called that while it was happening. But once we named it—once we understood it as a transformation, not just a series of inventions—we learnt from it. That's why we're doing what we are with ABT. We're naming it because this is a transformation—not incremental improvement, not optimization at the margins. A fundamental reimagining of what work is and who—or what—does it. And we're naming it now, at the beginning, so everyone can help shape what it becomes.

The Three Pillars of ABT
Autonomy with Judgement: AI agents complete complex workflows across systems and tools without constant human intervention. This isn't about automating a single task—it's about owning entire processes from trigger to resolution. Ownership of Workflows: Agentic AI takes responsibility for outcomes of workflows, not just tasks within. They measure their own performance, adapt their approach, and course-correct when things don't go as planned. You give them goals, and they figure out how to achieve them, and work with you when necessary. Transformation of Work: Agentic AI frees teams from repetition to focus on strategy, creativity, and growth. This is holistic transformation—not functional efficiency gains, but company-wide reimagination of what humans do and why.

An Invitation to Transform Together
We started Ema in early 2023, when "agents" still belonged to research papers and when trusting an LLM with business-critical decisions was considered risky. We built while others watched, and deployed while others theorized, and are now in a position to share what we've learnt from deploying agentic AI at some of the world's largest institutions. We've felt the resistance, overcome the objections, proven the value. We've seen AI agents fail and figured out how to make them reliable. We've watched them succeed and documented what made the difference. Most importantly: we cannot build this alone. ABT isn't an Ema product. It's a name we're giving to a movement we're already part of. A transformation being led by senior enterprise leaders charged with making AI useful in the modern enterprise. This will happen with or without us, but we believe we can help guide the movement towards more transparency, responsibility, trustworthiness, and genuine human benefit. This manifesto is an invitation for us to build together. If you're an enterprise leader wondering how to navigate this shift—you are who we wrote this for. If you're an employee drowning in repetitive tasks, dreaming of doing more interesting work—the tools to make that real are here now. Agentic Business Transformation is happening now. We believe the smartest people on earth deserve to do work worthy of their intelligence. And we believe that when we free humans from the mundane, we don't just increase productivity. We restore dignity. We unlock a better future.

Join the Movement
Fifty years from now, people will look back at this moment the way we look back at the Industrial Revolution now. They'll see it as the inflection point, the moment when work stopped being about managing repetition and started being about creating value. When companies stopped measuring success by headcount and started measuring it by impact. When careers stopped being defined by endurance and started being defined by innovation. They'll see the enterprises that led this transformation. The leaders who had the courage to reimagine everything. The teams that chose to evolve rather than resist. Welcome to what's next.
